A Survey on the Psychiatric Nurses¢¥ Opinions about the Community Mental Health

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the psychiatric nurses¢¥ opinions about the community mental health.

In research, psychiatric nurse means who is working at the psychiatric ward.

The subjects were 62 psychiatric nurses distributed in Seoul, Taegu, Kyungki, Kyungpuk, Chonngpuk, Kangweon Do.

Data were obtained using a convenience sample technique.

Data were analyzed using the SAS program for Frequencies were Factor Analysis.

The results were summarized as follows :

1) Most of the respondents agreed the severity of the mental health problems.

2) Sexual abuse, alcoholism, drug addiction were ranked highly in order for socially approval. "very severe".

3) They showed negative opinions about the question "Problems in psychiatric mental health were prevented and resoluted".

4) Socially negative attitudes were major factors which prevented the problems solving and prevention in the psychiatric mental health area.

5) They provided the patients who have psychopathy or emotional disorders with treatment first of all.

6) Early detections of psychiatric patients were needed first of all when conducting mental health services.

7) Most of all respondents wished that another independent mental health center was established and psychiatric nursing must have major role conducting for community mental health.

8) Most of all respondents showed that they were willing to receive psychiatric mental health training. Most of them wanted to receive training in counselling and educational methodology.

9) The opinions about psychiatric nursing homes shows very negative results at most of areas.

10) The opinions about psychiatric patients showed very empathetic and generous attitudes. Generally the respondents got it right the cause of psychiatric mental illness.

11) Showed that the respondents had a good vision about the psychiatric therapeutic prospect. And they had also positive attitudes in social rehabilitation of out-patients.
